Why the Woods Matter
Over the past couple of weeks, Nicole and I have had the gift of time together in some of the most beautiful places—Glacier National Park, Banff, and the Black Hills. We’ve hiked trails that wind through towering forests, sat beside turquoise rivers, read books, listened to music, and simply enjoyed each other’s company without a schedule.
It’s amazing how healing the woods can be.
There’s real science behind that. The National Institutes of Health points out that time spent in forests lowers stress, improves mood, strengthens immunity, and even helps you sleep better (NIH Study). But beyond the data, we’ve just felt it—peace, presence, and perspective.
This trip has reminded me how powerful it is to unplug and be surrounded by creation. Whether we’re walking in silence or talking through life, the woods have a way of making space for what really matters.
If you haven’t been outside for a while—go.
