Faith Over Fear: Moving Forward Anyway

Faith Over Fear: Moving Forward Anyway

One of the things I've been thinking about a lot lately is the idea of "faith over fear." It's a phrase we hear often — and don't get me wrong, it’s a good one — but sometimes it can sound like faith and fear are mutually exclusive. Like you can only have one or the other.

The truth? You can absolutely experience both.
You can feel the fear and still walk forward in faith.
You can be nervous, unsure, anxious — and still trust that God is working.

In fact, that's usually where real courage is found. Courage isn't the absence of fear. It's standing in the middle of the fear, feeling every bit of it, and taking the next step anyway — because your faith reminds you that you don't walk alone.

Transitioning into middle school is a perfect example.
It's a big change. It's supposed to feel a little scary — new buildings, new teachers, new friends, new expectations. It's okay for students (and let's be honest, parents too) to feel some fear about it.

But faith doesn't erase those feelings. It gives us the strength to move forward with them.
We don't wait for the fear to disappear before stepping into what's next.
We move forward with both faith and fear in our backpacks — trusting that God meets us exactly where we are.

So to all the students (and families) who are feeling the weight of change right now:
It’s okay to be scared.
It’s okay to feel unsure.
But take the step anyway.
Trust that God's already ahead of you, already at work in the new friendships, the new opportunities, and even in the hard moments.

Faith and fear can exist together — but it’s faith that pushes us to keep going.
You are braver than you feel.
You are stronger than you think.
And you are never, ever alone.
